April Ross

April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball stars to win medals at more than one Olympics. Alix-Klineman will compete with April Ross in Tokyo for her third gold medal in the coming days. Ross hopes to win her Olympic first gold medal however, she also hopes for even more. And at the age of 39, this could be her last chance to accomplish this. The athlete is optimistic she can achieve top honors. Ross stated to NBC Boston that if they perform at their very best, or play a great game her team will be able to win the gold medal. Also, it's the result of luck. Ross is born in the year 1982. Costa Mesa California where she resided with her parents and sister. Her athletic career was continued by Newport Harbor High School where she participated in several sports. She played basketball and ran the track as well as her indoor volleyball achievements as a prep athlete. However, she was a standout at this level. In her college profile, she played outside of the hitter, middle blocker, as well as a setter during her volleyball career at high school. In recognition of her work she was named in 1999 as the Gatorade Circle of Champions National Player of the Year. In addition, she was awarded the award in 2000. Orange County Athlete of the Year trophy for volleyball. Ross and Klineman started the partnership in 2017, However, Ross had been a beach-scene star for years before. In fact, she's won numerous events, one of which was with the legendary player of volleyball. From 2007 to 2013 she was in a partnership by Jennifer Kessy, who is currently her coach. Kessy and Ross were a formidable force in the world circuit, winning the 2009 World Championship as a team. The duo eventually captured an Olympic silver medal during the 2012 Olympic Games in London. The Misty Maytreanor legendary team along with Kerri Jennings were the winners of gold. The fate of the matter was that Ross was Walsh Jennings' new partner after May-Treanor's retirement. The pair went on to earn the beach volleyball bronze in the Rio Olympics in 2016. Ross began her collegiate professional career playing for the Trojans of USC in high school. It was a long time before Ross hit the sand and turned pro. Ross's time in the Trojans was impressive. As a freshman in 2000 she played her way to Pac-10 and NCAA Freshman of the Year honors and was also an All-American. She was also an integral player for helping the Trojans to make it to it to the Final Four. The second season of her career, she experienced a terrible personal tragedy, but earned the distinction of being an All-American. Over her final 2 years in the Trojans team, she led the team to win a national championship every year. The individual accomplishments of her have established her status as a legend in volleyball. She was awarded the Honda Sports Award 2003-04 for the top female NCAA player. Ross who was an USC international relations student, was a star in volleyball. Margie Ross, Ross' mother, was never given the chance to watch her daughter become an international beach volleyball star. As of 2001, when Ross was a sophomore studying at USC her mother died of breast cancer. Her mother is still close to her heart. Margie is a constant source of inspiration to her, both at and off the beaches.
