Lee Roy Selmon has a tradition that blends family scholarship football and volunteer work in the community. First family, he's the youngest of nine children born to Lucious and Jessie Selmon. The family lived on a family farm near Eufala, Oklahoma. The Selmons were also among the three brothers who played for Oklahoma on the field of football. The three brothers were all All-Americans. Lucious Jr. Dewey, Lee Roy, and Lucious Jr. Dewey started the 1973 season. Lee Roy was named the most effective offensive lineman of the nation by Outland, Lombardi and the Outland Awards. Through his three seasons as Oklahoma's main linebacker, the Sooners went 32-1-1 and captured two championships. He was awarded a third scholarship in 1975 and named as a National Football Foundation Student-Athlete. Selmon earned a bachelor's in the field of education. Lee Roy spent ten hours every week in volunteer work during college. In Tampa where he played, he joined the Buccaneers over nine years and was an all-pro. Additionally, he started a career in the field of business. In 1988 he was an Account Relations Officer for Tampa's First Florida Bank and worked on the following groups: Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute in the Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. In 1982, the Junior Chamber of Commerce recognized him as one of 10 among America's best young males. As a student, Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighed about 256 lbs. He played for his school's team in the year 1975. He became associate director of Athletics at the University of South Florida, in 1993. In 1988 He was elected into the College Football Hall of Fame. He was also inducted into both the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame as well as the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His parents, Lucious and Mary Selmon Sr. received the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation.
